The World Energy Congress, which takes place every three years, is expected to attract around 5,000 delegates to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in the UAE in 2019.
It is the first time the event has taken place in the Middle East.
The announcement comes after a meeting of the Executive Assembly of the WEC at Cartagena de Indias in Colombia.
Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, the Acting Group CEO of ADNEC, said: “Our successful bid for World Energy Congress testifies to Abu Dhabi’s leading status as a provider of hydrocarbons and new energy sources.”
The congress last took place in Korea in 2013, and attracted more than 7,500 delegates from 120 countries.
The 23rd World Energy Congress will take place in Istanbul, Turkey in 2016.
