Around 900 delegates are attending the International Congress and Convention Association’s (ICCA) 2015 congress in Antalya, Turkey, which is 10{145a419d7656749df8dae73ef9cc914403bff131858831389f83cc340b84cbdc} smaller than predicted a year ago.
The 53rd ICCA Congress 2015 has attracted 900 delegates from a record-breaking 72 countries, making it one of the four largest ICCA Congresses ever.
However, last year ICCA predicted that 1,000 delegates would attend the four-day event and cites the global geopolitical landscape over the last 12 months as a factor.
ICCA CEO Martin Sirk said: “At the early planning stage we originally expected around 1,000 delegates, but it now looks certain we will still attract more than 900, which is a tremendous achievement given the geopolitical situation and media coverage of terrorism threats over the past year.
“ICCA members are typically highly experienced travellers and don’t scare very easily, but we have also worked hard with our Turkish local hosts to ensure our delegates have access to accurate information about the situation on the ground, which in Antalya is ‘business as normal’.”
